KIRK SESSION.

 

 

A recent re-organisation of the Kirk Session structure has resulted in the setting up of 5 teams, whose responsibilities include the major tasks of spiritual care and spiritual leadership within the congregation and parish.

 

 

The WORSHIP team is led by Rev Donald Campbell, the SAFEGUARDING AND YOUTH WORKER team is led by Cath Close, the LOCAL AND WORLD MISSION AND YOUNG CHURCH team is led by Barbara Ann Brown, the PASTORAL CARE team is led by Brenda Holdbrook and the SESSION EFFECTIVENESS AND DEVELOPMENT team is led by David McLay.

 

 

It is planned that reports from each of these teams will appear, from time to time, in the Record.

MISSION STATEMENT.

The overall purpose is to be a vital witness to Jesus Christ by

 

  • making worship the central feature of the life of the congregation and parish
  • developing understanding of the Christian faith
  • enhancing and strengthening an inclusive fellowship so that all feel they belong and have a part to play.
  • responding in relevant and practical ways to the needs of the congregation and parish
  • contributing directly and indirectly to the wider work of the Church at home and abroad.
  • fostering fellowship among Elders

1. WORSHIP TEAM.

 Remit.   Worship is the primary activity of the Church and develops our Christian faith and understanding through our interaction with the Word of God, the Sacraments, music, praise, prayer, Bible study and action encompassing all ages of our Church family.

Worship is our response to God’s gifts and focuses on our relationship with God, Father,  Son and Holy Spirit and to our fellow human beings and the environment in which we live, work and play.

In meeting and encountering God we strive, through worship, to be a Church for all seasons, for all people, for the individual, the family and the community.

                                                                   

Objectives.

* To support the Minister, as necessary, and be responsible for arranging scripture   readers for Worship services

* To ensure that our form of worship meets the needs of our congregation and the parish.

* To enable wider participation of members of all ages in leading worship.

* To consider the use of technology to enhance worship

* To develop a variety of services

* To continue with a diversity of hymns and songs

Team Leader – The Minister

Members :- Janice Anderson, Moira Dunlop, George Allan, Helen Lister, Bill Haddow, Eleanor Hood, Organist (ex officio)

2.  SAFEGUARDING (FORMERLY CHILD PROTECTION) AND YOUTH WORKER TEAM.

Remit.

 Safeguarding regulations provide protection for our children and young people. We have a responsibility to ensure that these regulations are being carried out.

A Youth worker is employed to work with both primary and secondary school children, to promote the Church in the parish and community, to organize appropriate events and to liaise with the Minister.

The Minister and the Kirk Session have overall responsibility for the Youth worker. 

Objectives.

*. To carry out the duties of the Safeguarding Co-Ordinator and the relevant    Safeguarding regulations and to ensure that all those involved with our children have had the necessary training.

*. To provide advice, support and assistance to the Church Youth Worker and to maintain a supervisory role in conjunction with the Minister.

3. LOCAL AND WORLD MISSION AND THE YOUNG CHURCH TEAM.

Remit.

This involves Christian outreach of the Church within the parish and the wider community.

World Mission is our linkage between the Church of Scotland Council on World Mission and the congregation.

We have a responsibility for all organizations affiliated to the Church of Scotland and a special role in encouraging and supporting our youth organizations including the Sunday Club.

Objectives.

* To consider the Christian outreach of the Church within the parish and the wider community and to involve the congregation in making the church attractive and available to all who might contact it in any way and for any reason.

* To visit new homes with a message and organize leaflet drops at eg Easter and other special occasions.

* To act as a link between the Board of World mission in the Church of Scotland and the congregation ensuring that all are informed through newsletters by contributions at services through Christian Aid and in other ways.

* To keep in contact with parents etc of newly baptized children through the Cradle Roll.

* To be responsible for ensuring that all organizations for which the Church has a responsibility and also those who meet on Church premises have nominated Elders and to ensure that sufficient support is available and given to all our young people, especially the Sunday Club

* To identify an overseas community suitable for our pro-active assistance and involvement

*To liaise with our overseas partners

4.PASTORAL CARE TEAM.

Remit.

Pastoral care is our response to the Gospel grounded in our Call to Discipleship and to love our neighbour. It is offering God’s love in action and concern for the well being of individuals within our community, whether in childhood, adolescence adulthood, middle age or maturity.

Objectives.

o. To support the Minister in meeting the pastoral needs of all members of the congregation and congregation

o. To liaise with the Minister and keep him fully informed of the pastoral needs of members.  

o   To liaise with the relevant District Elder, as necessary.

Members : The Minister, Kay Crawford, Liz Bowie, May Griffin, George Colquhoun

Marjorie Goudie, Isobel Grant, Cath Close and Marion Simpson.

 

5. SESSION EFFECTIVENESS AND DEVELOPMENT TEAM.

Remit. 

This involves the smooth running and further development of the Kirk Session and its associated responsibilities.

Objectives.  

*  To communicate with local Churches eg Linwood  (see Presbytery plan)

*  To carry out Roll keeping duties

*  To arrange Elder training and other training, as necessary

*  To continue to monitor Session effectiveness.

*  To receive business reports and liaise with Presbytery as necessary.

*  To report on Remits to Presbyteries and Kirk Sessions from General Assembly 

*  To review Elders’ Districts, as necessary.

ANNEX.

Ad hoc Business Group – The Minister, Session Clerk, Deputy Session Clerk, Clerk to the Board, Finance Convenor and Fabric Convenor (ex officio)

Objectives..

* To consider any issues which arise, which require urgent resolution and which impinge on the whole congregation.

* To report such issues to the Kirk Session and Congregational Board.
