NOMINATION PAPER

The Kirk Session, having decided to ordain new members to the Kirk Session of Houston and Killellan Kirk, have also decided, in the interests of openness and inclusiveness, to involve the Church membership in this task.

The Kirk Session therefore invite members to nominate, by using this form only, the names of full communicant members of the congregation who have attained the age of 18 years whom they deem suitable for the Office of Ruling Elder.  You do not require to obtain the consent of the person you are nominating.  Depending on numbers, not all nominated persons may be approached at this time. 

Throughout this process we ask that STRICT CONFIDENTIALITY be observed by you as the nominating person (as well as by Kirk Session members).

You may nominate as many members of our congregation as you wish but this NOMINATING FORM must be signed by you and placed in the sealed container at the rear of the Kirk.

The Kirk Session is responsible for the due and reverent observance of the Sacraments, Baptism and the Lord’s Supper (Holy Communion), for the admission and conduct of members of the congregation, for the Christian education of the young people and for the affiliated youth organisations ie Sunday Club, Girls and Boys Brigade etc.

The Session has responsibility for the Guild, Mission of the church both at home and overseas; matters of Social responsibility and congregational and parish outreach.

As a member of Session, an Elder has certain responsibilities and duties and there is more to being an Elder than attending Session meetings, looking after an Elder’s district (not all elders have specified districts) and assisting with the bread and wine at Communion services.

Above all, in all things affecting the welfare of the congregation and parish, the Elder should be an example to others, attend Sunday Worship regularly and have a pastoral heart and a friendly and welcoming capacity for members and non-churchgoing people alike.  

In considering whom you may wish to nominate, please remember that our members of Kirk Session need to be blessed with a deep sense of Christian commitment and enthusiasm for the Church, for the people and for our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
