Saturday 10th May
KIRK CARNIVAL --- 10TH MAY 2014
Carnival time is drawing near once again & this year our theme is centered around four of the many important events taking place in Scotland this year. The commonwealth games, The Ryder cup, The 700th anniversary of the battle of Bannockburn & the second year of homecoming. So plenty of scope there for all you fancy dressers. (We've steered clear of a certain political event taking place later in the year. In the interests of harmony you understand.)
As always the success of the carnival will be dependent on the hard work & generosity of everyone involved in any way & of course forward planning is very important. So the organizing committee would like to remind all you avid gardeners out there to remember the plant stall when you're planting & potting & cutting & pruning (or whatever it is that gardeners do) as the success of the plant stall, & it's one of the big successes of the carnival, is in no small measure due to your generous donations.
For those of you, gardeners or otherwise, who are starting your spring cleaning, please remember the white elephant stall. Donations of all kinds of bric a brac, China & indeed any of your unwanted family heirlooms will be gratefully received. Although white elephants may be acceptable, sadly we can't take electrical goods or large pieces of furniture. If you require help with uplifting donations, Mary Reid (613770) or Kathryn McCartney(613741) will be happy to arrange help.
Other stalls which will also require your generous donations include, soft toys, jewellery, tombola, toys books, toiletries, bottle stall, Scottish produce & of course home baking & tearoom.
Finally, please remember it's never too early to start praying for good weather (I'm sure Donald would welcome the help). The weather after all is perhaps the single most important factor contributing to the success of the event.
So get the date in your diary ------ 10th of May at the church hall. See you all there.

Carnival Food Stalls
We are always grateful for all your contributions.
This year we would like to make the Scottish Stall even better so are looking for lots of jams, marmalade, lemon curd etc.
Donations of rhubarb are a "must" as it is a very popular produce.
The tea room and baking stall would welcome any donations. Houston is famous for its home baking!
The bottle stall is extremely popular so please help us to stock it.
