Saturday 9th May 2015
It is now that time of the year when thoughts turn to spring, summer and most importantly the 2015 Kirk Carnival. After last year’s magnificent event the pressure is on to go one better and make it a year to remember.
This year is a very important one for our Church as the new extension will soon be open for business and it is sure to be a magnificent addition for not only the Church but the whole community. With this in mind, we have decided to pay tribute to this building with our own ‘Grand Design’ Carnival theme. There are, of course, no restrictions on the type of grand design when creating your fancy dress. You may wish to design a decorative hat, a coat of many colours or slip into a cardboard box and bin bag in the shape of the Eiffel Tower. Just let your imagination run free!
The Kirk Carnival is an immensely successful event within the village and this is due, in no small measure, to the dedicated organisers, helpers and generous contributors who plan and then simply make it happen on the day.
It is, therefore, time for all gardeners to think about sowing, planting and potting for the plant stall and for all householders to start collecting those unwanted bits and pieces of bric-a-brac for the white elephant stall. Take a look in bedroom cupboards or in attics for toys, books, cuddly bears and jewellery (if you haven’t used them for six months you don’t need them!).
There will be many other stalls needing filled with toiletries, bottles (full of course) and home baking, the list is endless. We cannot however accept large items such as furniture or electrical goods. If you need help with getting the items to us then please contact Kathryn McCartney (613741) who will gladly assist.
We are always on the lookout for help and assistance from people who have a particular talent or area of expertise to enhance the Carnival yet further. You may have good contacts in the business world to help with sponsoring through advertising in the programme, you may be a very good ‘face painter’ or, just as importantly, you may be that person who can join in to setup and staff the many stalls or events on the day. Any of the Conveners or the Co-ordinators will be delighted to speak with you. If you have never helped in the Kirk Carnival, this could be the year for you.
All proceeds for the 2015 Kirk Carnival will go towards the new Church extension.
