Duke of Edinburgh - Gold Award Presentation at the Palace of Holyrood House
A record number of young men from 1st Houston BB were awarded their Gold DofE Certificates from HRH Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh at the Palace of Holyrood House on Friday 16 July 2010. The eight young men, Andrew Collins, Michael Cumine, Grant Rankin, Adam MacAlister, Calum Jowett, Douglas Holmes, Fraser Jowett and Craig Hawthorn, are pictured with the Palace in the background. (A ninth member, Finlay Fraser, was unable to attend as he was on holiday)
The Kirk is extremely proud of their achievement. To gain the Award, they have all taken part in numerous hikes, helped in the Anchor Boys , Junior Section and ATC, and participated in various physical activities including mountain biking, football etc. All the young men have played with the Pipe Band at fetes, carnivals, competitions and the farewell of both the QE2 and QM2 in Greenock.
They now join an elite group of 78 young men from Houston BB who have achieved this award over the last 24 years.
