Houston & Crosslee Brownies and Guides.
Last session our 4 brownie packs and 2 guide companies had an action packed time with pack holidays, trips to excape, bowling, swimming and going many other places.
Many badges were obtained ranging from First Aid, Healthy Heart, World Traveller, Communicator, Pack holiday, Friend to Animals, Collector and Entertainer. Many “Go for Its “ were awarded at Guides.
Some brownies also took part in the guiding “Changing the World Project” learning to say “NO to Bullies” and culminating with a very special friendship party.
The real fun starts in September when the Centenary Year for the brownies and guides kicks off.
There will be many memorable events, starting with a special launch party on 6th September that all brownies will be invited to, special camps and trips and numerous other opportunities for all brownies and guides to really celebrate what being in guiding is all about.
One of our Young Leaders has already attended a special media team weekend, where there were 70 girls (only 3 from Scotland) planning events for the Centenary camp in Yorkshire next summer!
We really hope to spread the message that “Girls are in the lead” We may have been around for 100 years but we are up to date modern and fun! Our Centenary is a chance to go all out, push some boundaries, pick up challenges, live a dream and remind ourselves and the wider world what we're really made of.
How will you celebrate 100 years of fun and friendship for girls and young women?
If you fancy joining either brownies or guides contact Helen Dunn ( t – 01505 614266 ) as we have some spaces available in brownie and guides.
Brownies are for aged 7 – 10 years, guides for 10 –14 years.
Girls 14+ can take part in the Duke of Edinburgh award scheme and we currently have many girls undertaking bronze and silver and gold awards.
Guiding provides a safe, girl-only space to explore the activities, issues and possibilities that are available to girls today.
The range of activities is enormous and there's something, or more than something, to appeal to everyone, from outdoor challenges to learning new skills, international travel to getting involved in community action projects. And whether abseiling and canoeing or having your say on how we operate, one thing is certain. You'll make a lot of friends and have a lot of fun.
But there’s more to guiding than having a good time. Guiding is a game with a purpose.
